Local Supported Programs
The Optimist Club of New Ulm regularly provides funding and support for following New-Ulm area youth-centered programs and activities.
Youth POWER offers free events, group activities and service projects for New Ulm area youth ages 7-13. Youth POWER holds a Day of Play and a Water Day of Play each summer, as well as frequent activities and events throughout the school year. Other activities include first aid/safety classes, arts and crafts, healthy eating workshops, Christmas party, movie nights, community garden games and clean up, STEM night and more! 

Youth POWER is a way for the Optimist Club of New Ulm to give back and help youth learn how to find their own personal power!

Junior Optimist International (JOI) Club of New Ulm High School was started by students wanting to share a positive impact in the community, through science, math, creative arts, social skills and team work. 

Their group is sponsored and coordinated by the NU Optimist Club.
Youth Power
Youth POWER was started when Melanie, a member of the Optimist Club of New Ulm, put together a fun club for the youth in our community. With several other enthusiastic members and the support of our Club, Youth POWER was created in 2018. The mission of Youth POWER is to spread a positive and optimistic attitude to youth and teaching them to be welcoming, enthusiastic and respectful of others.

Youth Scholarships / Contests
Essay Contest
The Optimist Club of New Ulm supports students through yearly scholarships, contests, and academic recognition events. 
This yearly scholarship provides an opportunity for students to express their opinion in written form about a specified topic & its impact on the world.

Winners of the essay contest are awarded scholarships and by our local chapter and can advance to the district level for additional scholarships. Awards range from $100 - $300 at the local level and up to $2,500 at the district level.

Oratorical Contest
The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters the chance to speak to the world. This annual speech contest is designed to inspire the youth of today to inform others through the art of public speaking. 

Winners of the oratorical contest are awarded scholarships by our local chapter and can advance to the district level for additional scholarships. Awards range from $100 - $300 at the local level and up to $2,500 at the district level.

Junior Golf Championship Qualifying Tournament
The New Ulm Optimist Club hosts qualifying students for the annual District Junior Golf Tournament - Qualifying Round.

Top golfers from the district tournament go on to compete at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship in Florida.

2024 Club Scholarships
The New Ulm Optimist Club strives to support the continued education of the youth in our community. 

The Optimist Club Scholarships provides $750 awards for driven students either attending 4 year programs OR attending a trade/vocational school. Applicants clear career path, drive and motivation to complete their education, and a desire to be involved in their community.
